A few facts about the strong relationship and history between Scotland and The Solheim Cup. The relationship in numbers:
- Following the inaugural Solheim Cup in the United States in 1990, the first match on European soil was played in Scotland in 1992, at Dalmahoy Hotel Golf and Country Club, Edinburgh. It was also the first European victory. At that time the overall result was 1-1.
- Scotland, along with Sweden and England, has had a player on all four of the winning European teams in 1992, 2000, 2003 and 2011.
- In 2000, Scotland hosted The Solheim Cup for a second time, at Loch Lomond Golf Club and Europe claimed its second victory (after losing in Wales in 1996). At that time, the US team held a 4-2 lead in the matches.
- The following 6 Scottish players have represented Europe in The Solheim Cup:
- Catriona Matthew: a six-time player and likely to make a seventh appearance on the team in 2013. She is the player that has represented Scotland the most times.
- Dale Reid: a five-time player and two-time European Captain in 2000 and 2002. She and Pamela Wright both played in the first Solheim Cup in 1990.
- Pamela Wright: a four-time player and assistant captain in 2002. She and Dale Reid both played in the first Solheim Cup in 1990.
- Janice Moodie: a three-time player, in 2009, 2003 and 2000 and Captain of the 2013 European PING Junior Solheim Cup team in Colorado.
